Tired of Feeling Tired by Anne Adametz, Yoga Therapist, Acupuncturist, Radio Show Host

Get some acupuncture, and feel zenned.Feeling low energy, emotionally drained, and like even planing a vacation is too much work right now?  It’s time to feel renewed, and there are so many gorgeous, natural solutions, that are LESS work than we do every day.

I see a multitude of patients who are all in the same boat:

  • Feeling the weight of obligations
  • Children need so much from them
  • Exhausted, deficient, overweight, sick of it

From a yogic and Chinese Medicine standpoint, these are clear markers for the same main issue: we are lost in a sea of what others need from us, and our own goals and dreams are being set aside to put out fires.  Lay your extinguisher down, I say, and create yourself a Fireproof home.

In yoga we call this self-awareness.  We realize that we are not just everyone’s beck and call-girls, and we become, instead the masters of our own destiny. Yes, that means, we may need to put our work, obligations, children *GASP* second.  Isn’t that what we are supposed to do? In a plane, we are instructed to put the gasmask over our OWN face first, and then our childrens.  What I am seeing in my clinic, is an epidemic of women who have put 10-12 gasmasks on their work, their children, their families, spouses, etc,  and now we are depeleted, and convulsing for lack of energy.

Of course, if we are putting these important people second, third and fourth, we should darn well be treating position #1 with due respect, i.e. taking true care of ourselves.  I don’t mean getting a pedicure, or shopping, which are both fine things to do, but they are certainly not prioritizing our best well-being and peace.

Here are some ways to prioritze yourself in a nourishing, healthy way in order to feel whole, and ready to take on the challenges of those who we love, and work with:

  1. Do Yoga: learn how to breathe, the only voluntary system in our body that can literally control all other systems. Begin by getting a full EXHALE, which calms the nervous system, and repeated, can bring the body out of hyper-stress, relatively effortlessly
  2. Make a Manifesto:  Draw out your deepest life dreams, what they look like, smell like, feel like, and in your own ideal language. Do a 5 year, 10 Year, life long list. Place no limits on this list, and realize what is “aching” within you to be heard. You listing is a way to nourish your soul. Having the list handy each morning, is a way for you to decide what is each day’s goal, it should be somehow in the direction of your dreams, in THOUGHT, WORD, & ACTION.
  3. LISTEN TO YOU:  NOT YOUR MIND!  You are not your mind. Woh, I know. Your mind is a storehouse of experiences, if we listen to it, we will get what we already have had 🙂  Instead, calm the mind with meditation, breathing, yoga, etc. and listen for your “small still voice” the one that is clear, direct, and always positive (shut down the pro/con, voice).  The voice is the one that says “take a jacket” right before you leave, it’s the one that when we don’t we freeze, and say, JEEZ, I KNEW I should’ve taken a jacket!

Above all, take time to separate yourself from the constant barrage of neediness in work, home, etc. While we love and have great passion for our family and work, we need to FILL THE CUP from which we offer each of these factions a drink, lest we start tapping into our internal fountain of youth, and then *wrinkle* *wrinkle* little star, we start showing it.

Be happy, my darlings, take care of yourself, nourish your life dreams, take time to do so, and go within, where there is an unlimited resevoir of peace showing you everything is truly ok, and this is all a place to learn.
